[Monday May 31st, 2010. Andersonville, Chicago.]
Laura Mullen (Rabbit Light Movies' new Contributing Editor) helped out with this episode, as she kindly filmed the following in the American West: Claudia Keelan, Donald Revell, Lisa Robertson, and Carol Snow.
New Field Editor Kevin Weidner in Tuscaloosa also contributed by filming Joel Brouwer and recording the audio for Terrance Hayes's poem. The footage for Terrance's film comes from my old neighborhood in Chicago, at about Hollywood and Wayne on one of those nights you're forbidden to go out of doors because the particulate matter and pollution is so wicked. I'm not kidding.
Some other filmmakers also participated in this episode: Christine Hume's film was made by Sean Hurley. Julie Carr's film was made by Field Editor Mathias Svalina in Denver. I think it was filmed in Mathias's backyard. Peter Streckfus's film was made by the author (voice, text) and the filmmaker John Davis (music, editing).
Sarah Gridley's video was made by Wells Addington. And Dawn Lundy Martin & Ronaldo V. Wilson made their film together. Lesley Yalen & Natalie Lyalin's film was made by Lesley, via
skype--since Natalie lives in Jerusalem.
Several of the poets in this episode came over to the apartment one evening on March 28th to be filmed in the living room: Eula Biss, Jennifer Scappettone, Sandra Lim, Tony Trigilio, Patrick Durgin, Leila Wilson, Monica Fambrough, Joel Craig, Peter O'Leary, Kerri Sonnenberg, and James Shea. Lily Brown helped out with all these. The footage for James's film comes--I think--from somewhere in Kentucky or Indiana. The footage for Sandra's was shot outside the Art Institute of Chicago on May 19.
John Beer's movie was filmed two days after the house reading, with whom Travis, Monica, MR. PC, Nicole, and I read for the htmlgiant reading (March 30th).
I filmed Matvei Yankelevich in Chicago, outside of a bar called Rodan, on Milwaukee Ave after his reading at Myopic Books on Sunday April 25th.
Zachary Schomburg was filmed a few days later (on April 28th), in Andersonville, Chicago, outside the Map Factory Building on Ravenswood Avenue when he was passing through on his epic journey of the earth.
Judith Goldman kindly met me on the corner of Balmoral and Paulina in Chicago on May 18th for this little movie.
The footage for Allyssa Wolf's movie is from Millennium Park, Chicago on May 19th.
Finally, Michael Robins's movie was filmed in the Friendly Confines on May 26th. The Cubs did not beat the Dodgers. But the lights went out for about 18 minutes in the middle of the game.
I'm pleased to report that the next Rabbit Light Movies episode (#12), coming this fall 2010, will be a single long film: a road trip odyssey featuring poets from around the country filmed by none other than Zachary Schomburg.
The undying Blake Butler will collect an all prose Episode (#13) for Summer 2011. Something to look forward to.
